This chapter is paired with my song Testify because my mama's greatest testimony was never spoken from a stage—it has always been lived every day.
She taught me that faith is more than words. It's choosing to trust God through every season, encouraging others when life is hard, and believing His promises even when you can't yet see the outcome.
Long before I became an artist or songwriter, I watched her live a life that pointed people toward Christ. Her kindness, her prayers, and her unwavering faith became part of my own story.
This song is dedicated to the woman whose life continues to testify to God's faithfulness.
People often ask where my love of art and music came from.
The answer isn’t found in just one person.
My daddy taught me to believe I could do anything.
My mama taught me why I should.
My mother is a writer. Throughout her life she has written beautiful poems and heartfelt stories, but what has always impressed me most isn’t what she has written—it’s the way she has lived.
She is the deepest person I know.
She is a faithful, godly woman who doesn’t simply talk about her faith. She lives it every single day. Her kindness isn’t reserved for special occasions. It’s part of who she is.
She has always been my biggest encourager.
Whether it was painting, songwriting, teaching, or chasing another dream, she never stopped believing in me. She celebrated every accomplishment, prayed through every disappointment, and reminded me that God was always working, even when I couldn’t see it.
My mama has a rare gift.
She genuinely loves people.
Not because she has to…
Because she wants to.
There’s something about her that makes complete strangers feel like old friends. People enjoy being around her. They want to visit her, sit at her kitchen table, hear her stories, and leave feeling better than when they arrived.
I have watched her quietly encourage people for as long as I can remember.
Looking back now, I realize I've spent much of my life trying to pass that same encouragement on through my paintings, my music, and now these journal pages.
If someone smiles because of something I’ve created…
If someone finds hope in a song…
If someone feels encouraged by a story…
A little of that began with my mama.
She taught me that the greatest masterpieces aren’t always painted on canvas.
Sometimes they’re painted in the lives of the people we love.
Thank you, Mama, for showing me what faith looks like when it’s lived every day.
You will always be my hero.
Thank you for spending a little time in my world.
Keep telling your story.
