This chapter is paired with my upcoming song, Moon Lake Remembers. Like this story, it's about the places, the people, and the memories that never really leave us. Some places become part of who we are, and some moments continue to echo through our lives long after they've passed.
The lakes, bayous, and backroads of my childhood hold more than beautiful scenery—they hold family, laughter, friendships, and moments that helped shape the person I became. Those memories continue to inspire both my paintings and my music.
If this story stirred a memory in your own heart, I hope this song will too.
🎵 Pre-save Moon Lake Remembers today and be among the first to hear it when it releases on July 31.
If there's one thing I've learned, it's that life isn't measured by the things we accumulate.
It's measured by the stories we leave behind.
Long after our voices grow quiet, people won't remember every word we spoke or every possession we owned. They'll remember how we made them feel. They'll remember the laughter, the encouragement, the unexpected kindness, and the moments that became treasured memories.
As an artist, I've often thought about that.
Every painting carries a little piece of my heart. Every song tells a story. Every brushstroke, every lyric, every photograph captures a moment that can never be lived exactly the same way again.
Those moments become our legacy.
I've reached for the phone more than once, excited to tell someone I loved about a beautiful sunset, a new painting, or something that made me smile—only to remember they were no longer here. In those quiet moments, grief and gratitude somehow meet. I smile because I remember the memories we shared.
Those memories are gifts.
They remind me to slow down, to notice the beauty around me, and to create new memories with the people who are still here.
We never know which conversation will be our last.
We never know which hug will become a treasured memory.
We never know when an ordinary day will become extraordinary simply because we shared it with someone we love.
So take the picture.
Write the letter.
Tell someone you love them.
Step outside your routine and make a memory worth remembering.
Because in the end, the greatest inheritance we leave isn't measured by what we owned.
It's found in the stories people tell when they remember us.
Thank you for spending a little time in my world.
